Amanda Johnson is a painter whose work centers on the contemporary female figure – direct, self-possessed, and unapologetically present. Working fluidly between drawing and painting, she builds her images through gesture, ink, and layered washes, allowing spontaneity and control to coexist. Her figures emerge with a distinct psychological presence, capturing moments that feel both intimate and enduring. Her work reflects a sustained commitment to honoring the complexity of women – strength, vulnerability, and individuality – rendered with a confident, modern hand. Johnson manages to balance sensuality and emotion with power in presence.
Originally from Baltimore, and based in Delray Beach, Florida, Johnson is the co-founder of Amanda James Gallery, where her practice expands beyond the canvas into textiles and wearable art.
This is Amanda Johnson’s first solo show with KMR Arts.
